Write for us

Fresh Culture Journal welcomes pitches that begin with a telling detail and open onto a well-grounded cultural question. Send proposals through the Contact page; please do not send a finished article unless requested.

Subjects that fit

We are interested in objects, rituals, words, images and customs explored with specificity and care. A pitch might compare the meanings of a form, trace the background of a familiar practice, or explain how context changes the way something is read.

A useful pitch

Tell us the proposed subject, the central question, why it matters to curious general readers, and what sources or expertise would support the piece. Include a brief indication of your relevant experience without overstating it, and disclose any conflicts of interest.

Our standards

Strong contributions make focused claims, distinguish evidence from interpretation and avoid speaking for whole cultures or communities. We do not accept copied work, undisclosed promotional writing or pitches that depend on unsupported generalisations.

Where to send it

Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option to send a pitch. A proposal is not a commission; wait for an editorial response before preparing a full draft.

Our point of view

Small details open larger worlds

Culture is not only found in grand institutions or distant histories. It is also present in the objects we reach for, the words we repeat and the rituals we share.
